SEEK WISDOM BEFORE YOU LEAD

A Leader Seeks God’s Wisdom Before Making Any Decision

Leadership often requires decisions before we have all the answers.

There will be moments when people are looking to you for direction, circumstances are demanding action, and the pressure to make a quick decision is overwhelming.

But Christian leadership requires something different.

Before you make the decision, seek the One who sees what you cannot see.

“A leader doesn’t have to have every answer. A leader has to know where to go to find the wisdom they need.”— David Angeron

James 1:5 reminds us:

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”James 1:5 (NIV)

Pause Before You Proceed

One of the greatest disciplines a Christian leader can develop is the ability to pause.

Before reacting:

Pray.

Before responding:

Seek wisdom.

Before committing:

Seek God's direction.

Before moving forward:

Make sure you're moving in alignment with your assignment.

The pressure of leadership can make us believe that we always have to act immediately.

But sometimes the most courageous thing a leader can do is wait.

Waiting doesn't necessarily mean you're doing nothing.

Sometimes God is doing some of His greatest work in you while you're waiting for Him to reveal what comes next.

Don't Let Pressure Make Your Decisions

Fear says, “What will people think?”

Pride says, “You should already know the answer.”

Pressure says, “You have to decide right now.”

Faith says:

“Let me seek God first.”

“Don't allow the urgency of the moment to override the wisdom of God.”— David Angeron

The right decision isn't always the easiest decision.

It isn't always the most popular decision.

And sometimes it isn't even the decision that makes the most sense to everyone around you.

But when your leadership is rooted in faith, your goal isn't simply to make a decision.

Your goal is to make a decision that is aligned with God's purpose.

Leadership Challenge for This Week

Before making an important decision this week, take five minutes to stop and pray.

Ask:

  • God, what am I not seeing?

  • God, what wisdom do I need?

  • Is this decision driven by faith or fear?

  • Does this align with the assignment You have given me?

  • Who will be impacted by this decision?

  • Am I willing to obey even if the answer isn't what I wanted?

Then listen.

Don't just pray to tell God what you want.

Pray to hear what He wants.

This Week's Leadership Thought

“Great leadership isn't simply knowing when to move. It's knowing when to pause, pray, listen, and wait for God's direction.”— David Angeron

Scripture for the Week

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)

Daring Assignment

Your assignment may be difficult.

Your path may not be obvious.

And you may not have all the answers.

But you don't need to know everything to take the next step.

Seek God.

Trust His wisdom.

Walk in faith.

And lead with purpose.

Your assignment isn't supposed to be easy. It's supposed to be worth it.
